The Story of Acme Climate Action
Acme Climate Action is not your typical green thing. It’s not a charity or government initiative and there’s no motivating wristband or celebrity endorsement.
The enterprise was dreamt up by Provokateur, a small design agency working with ethical clients in leafy North London. Provokateur creates communications for charities, campaigns, ethical products and nice companies trying to make the world better.
Provokateur had been working a lot on climate change, but noticed that many campaigns made a lot of noise but not always much of a difference - worse still, they were beginning to feel like part of an international nagging movement – and it wasn’t working.
Acme Climate Action is a new response to global warming.
Instead of telling people what to do, we give them the tools to do it.
Instead of making people feel guilty or overwhelmed, we give them something to feel good about.
And instead of leaving people to save the planet on their own, we create a community of Acme People to do it together.
We believe in energy, innovation and impact. Yes, climate change is a serious business, but that doesn't mean our response can't be inspiring and positive.
Originally, Acme Climate Action started out as a packet of stickers, then, with the support of 4th Estate, it became a book and now the website is on a mission to create a global movement of Acme Climate Activists.
So why’s it called ‘Acme Climate Action’?
Well, ‘Acme’ is for anyone and everyone. It’s a generic, universal name, and a word we liked.
‘Climate’? Presumably that doesn’t require explanation.
And ‘Action’? Well, that’s what it’s all about: doing something. And we’ll make it as easy, as engaging and as fun as possible.
Us humans have never faced a challenge as all encompassing as climate change and it’s going to take all the ingenuity and dedication we can muster in order to meet it.
It’s time for a new way of thinking.
It’s time for Acme Climate Action.
